When the new 5.0 patch flips over on Aug. 28, will you be ready with glyphs? Blizzard is recycling old glyphs instead of making new spell IDs and charring old ones. Some glyphs are staying the same, some are new, but some share IDs with old Cataclysm glyphs.

Below is our list of new or changing glyphs for shaman. This is not a list of changing tooltips, just which glyphs you ought to have if you want to automatically have the new glyphs when the patch flips over.

Shaman gain no brand new glyphs but recycle some of the boring glyphs into cool cosmetic minors.

Glyphs that are changing into new majors:

• Shocking becomes Capacitor Totem
• Elemental Mastery becomes Chaining
• Windfury Weapon becomes Cleansing Waters
• Water Breathing becomes Healing Storm
• Earthliving Weapon becomes Purge
• Lava Burst becomes Spirit Walk
• Stormstrike becomes Spiritwalker's Grace
• Lightning Bolt becomes Telluric Currents
• Stoneclaw Totem becomes Totemic Vigor
• Chain Heal becomes Unstable Earth
• Flametongue Weapon becomes Wind Shear

Glyphs that are changing into new minors:

• Earth Shield becomes Deluge
• Renewed Life becomes Far Sight
• Lightning Shield becomes the Lakestrider
• the Arctic Wolf becomes the Spectral Wolf
• Water Walking becomes Totemic Encirclement

Time to revisit this topic again. You're probably asking yourself why we're talking about this again. Well, to be honest, it's because it's the end of an expansion cycle. While we're prepping for the next expansion that will shake up mechanics and stats, we find ourselves at a point of speculation -- and therefore, things like Telluric Currents find themselves back in the crosshairs, so to speak.

The talent itself is something you use, or you don't use. There are some hard facts about the talent. You do not need to stack hit to make it useful, only to make sure every bolt hits. It is not mana neutral, using the talent and casting Lightning Bolt will indeed fill up your mana bar. It can be used to supplement low spirit totals for beginning healers, and can be used in certain phases on raid bosses to maintain healing mana totals. Whether it is optional or mandatory depends on a lot of factors up to and including the team you're healing with and the content you're healing through.

The ask a restoration shaman article last week is something I'd like to start doing a little more regularly. You guys provided some awesome questions and offered amazing feedback. Seeing readers answering questions as much as asking them makes me proud to be a member of the shaman community!

Today's post comes as a request through last week's call for questions. When our talent trees were revamped to the current model, one of the goals was to make some optional but fun talents. Some of the talents have proven to be insanely useful and almost mandatory, while others seem completely out of place. Today we're going to talk about some of restoration's "optional" talents. Oh, and if you have anything you want covered in a Totem Talk post, feel free to email me!

So last week, we talked about restoration getting buffed by a significant amount. There has been a lot of excitement about it, and it has even been referred to as the light at the end of the tunnel for healing shaman. As the result of a hotfix, restoration shaman have been making a steady climb back up the ladder of healing hierarchy.

This week, though, I thought we could take a look at two talents I've been getting a lot of questions and emails about lately, Telluric Currents and Focused Insight. They've been sitting on the back burner for most folks, and their viability in dungeons, raids and PvP has been debated and analyzed. While patch 4.1 on the PTR is the hot topic for most folks right now, we haven't really had any earth-shattering changes posted yet, and there has been no mention of a new cooldown, either. Let's explore these two talents today while we eagerly await any new changes.
