WoW Moviewatch: Pointless Top 10: Coolest Frostfire Ridge Mobs

Wowcrendor's Pointless Top 10 lists are usually really, really pointless... but since it's right there in the name, you know what you're getting into when you click. But that said, we always wind up laughing at even the most pointless of pointlessness, so we keep watching them.

Today's Pointless Top 10 is actually less pointless than usual, since it takes you to the Warlords of Draenor alpha to find the coolest mobs on Frostfire Ridge. We hate to break it to you, Wowcrendor, but #10 is on fire and therefore it can hardly be considered cool... but other than that we take no objection to these coolness rankings. So why not take a tour of Frostfire's most interesting and/or pointless inhabitants?

Top 10 must-have rare cards in Hearthstone

Looking to spruce up your Hearthstone deck? Not sure which cards will get you the most bang for your buck? I've taken the liberty of compiling a shortlist of neutral rares that you should definitely craft with your excess dust. Keep in mind that what you buy will depend largely on what class deck you plan to pilot and your personal playstyles. Rares will set you back 100 dust per card. If you're like me and want to create gold versions, expect to drop 800 dust.

Argent Commander

Despite the slight nerf to the Argent Commander in the most recent Hearthstone patch, Argent Commander remains a strong must-buy for any aspiring player. It was nerfed from a 4/3 to a 4/2 putting it in range of a Consecration or a Blizzard, but the fact is, it can still immediately remove most threats on the board the moment it comes out and survive. 6 mana is a bargain for the ability to knock out any 4 health minions (or get 4 quick damage in) and the Divine Shield gives it a little extra durability. Good in just about any deck.

Oh Rhonin, you're so silly. Messing with timelines and making "what if" questions out of nowhere. Let's look around the blogosphere at some what-if's and various other speculation, shall we?

AchievementTracker tracks achievements across the realms

Reader Jeffrey R. was kind enough to send us his achievement tracking site, named (conveniently) AchievementTracker.com. We've seen quite a few sites for tracking achievements on your own character out there already (especially since the Armory opened up the information to the web), but unlike the others, AchievementTracker seems to be focusing on ranking only -- instead of browsing over your own information, all the site really presents is a list of the top players in the world, US, EU, or by the various realms.

There are a few caveats, the first being that they're only tracking characters above level 70, and the second being that they're not tracking everyone -- I had to put my own character into the system (though that won't matter if you're just looking for the top players, since I would never even rank on any lists anyone was watching). And while WoW-Achievements has Beelsebub of EU Darksorrow at number one and Minipuff of EU Stormscale in second place so far, AchievementTracker has them backwards (and their point totals are lower -- maybe Armory lag?).

And of course we don't know for sure if there's someone on the realms that neither of these sites are tracking with more achievement points (it may be worth noting, too, that beyond Armory links, neither site tells us much about the characters -- is there a class or spec that's better for achievement point earning?). It'll probably take a little while until we can get a standard for tracking these, but until then, looks like we'll have a few different lists to watch.

WotLK is one of Yahoo!'s most anticipated games of 2008

Wrath of the Lich King made Yahoo! Games' list of 10 anticipated games in 2008. It's the only expansion on the list, and it stands proudly alongside other legendary intellectual properties like Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy, Halo, Fallout, and Grand Theft Auto.

It's definitely unusual for an expansion pack to make a list like this; that just goes to show you how extraordinary World of Warcraft is as a cultural phenomenon. Now if only I knew when this blasted expansion might be coming out, I could stop sitting around and fantasizing about playing as a Death Knight. No, wait ... I'd still be doing that anyway.

Breakfast Topic: Where's WoW?

MMO sites across the 'net have recently been abuzz with the question of what everyone's top ten MMOs are, inspired by a forum thread on f13.net. As of this morning, f13 has compiled the following rankings:

814 pts. - World of Warcraft
514 pts. - City of Heroes/Villains
471 pts. - Dark Age of Camelot
459 pts. - Ultima Online
450 pts. - EverQuest
435 pts. - Eve Online
349 pts. - EverQuest 2
348 pts. - Star Wars Galaxies
308 pts. - Lord of the Rings Online
219 pts. - Planetside

Though our game of choice, World of Warcraft, is ahead of the competition, this morning I'd like to ask you where WoW would rank in your own top ten list. Is it number one, matching f13's list, or not?
