Breakfast Topic: What do you imagine the urgent maintenance was for?

Recently, Blizzard took down all of the realms on a Friday for urgent maintenance. This prompted many readers to fantasize about what the downtime was all about.

They forgot to move Nax to Jade Forest, u gotta keep that thing running or the fuel goes bad.

I heard they're getting rid of PVP servers in anticipation of the Alliance/Horde peace treaty at the end of the expansion.

It's the hamsters. Server maintenance is always a problem with the hamsters.

My imagination took me elsewhere ...

Urgent maintenance on all realms at 1 p.m. EDT

All realms are scheduled to be down for maintenance from 1 p.m. EDT (10 a.m. PDT) to 3 p.m. EDT (Noon PDT).

We will be performing urgent maintenance on all realms to resolve a technical issue Friday, September 28th. Maintenance will begin at 10:00 AM and conclude at approximately 12:00 PM PDT.

Surprise! Urgent maintenance today

Today (well, today if you're reading this on Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2010, which you probably are), there will be some surprise downtime in order to correct a technical issue. There's no indication of a client patch or anything like that, just some good ol' standard downtime from 8 a.m. EST / 5 a.m. PST until 2 p.m. EST / 11 a.m. PST.

If things get extended, we'll let you know about it.

Blizzard -- Maintenance

We will be performing urgent maintenance on all realms to resolve a technical issue. Maintenance will begin at 5:00 AM and conclude at approximately 11:00 AM PST.

Updatedx3: Urgent maintenance complete

Blizzard has announced that they are conducting urgent maintenance on several realms. ~~Though the~~ ~~official Warcraft twitter account~~ ~~announced it would only go on until noon PST~~ (the tweet was about account maintenance), the in-game and forum messages state that they do not know how long the maintenance will take. They expect to have more information by 12:30 p.m. PST / 3:30 p.m. EST.

The list of affected realms is after the break (which includes Zangarmarsh, the It came from the Blog server).

We will keep you informed as the status changes.

3:25 p.m. PST: All realms are (supposedly) online and playable.
