Choose My Adventure: Polls for week 5

Choose the adventures of the WoW.com staff as we level our characters in <It came from the Blog> on US Zangarmarsh-H.

We have Anne Stickney joining us next week as Annephora, the troll warrior. She would like readers to choose her talent tree and professions. Fox Van Allen will also be joining us and wants you to choose just about everything. Michael Gray as Grayfields would like his PvP pet chosen for him, and Matthew Rossi asks you to choose the talent tree for his mage. Otherwise, we will retain our marching orders from previous polls, as we have not yet leveled past them.

Our remaining schedule for this week is:
  • Matthew Rossi as Andrenorton, his new troll mage: Saturday, 3-4 p.m. EDT
  • Michael Gray as Grayfields, the tauren hunter, will be making appearances as he can this week.
  • Adam Holisky as Adammentat, the tauren druid, will be making appearances as he can.
The polls for next week are after the break.

Design a disease timer for DeathKnight.info

DeathKnight.info is having a Death Knight Disease Design contest (say that three times fast) -- they're working on putting together a disease-timer addon for you former slaves of the Lich King, but they need a little design help with it. What you've got to do is take the graphic above (you should probably take the one off of their site, just to be safe, because it's got to be a certain size), and design a way to use it as a disease timer -- it's got to show all the info you'll need in an addon, and it's got to "look awesome," too.

I'm terrible at design, but maybe there are some budding designers out there with some kickass ideas. If you win, not only do you get your ideas included in the Runes addon, but you will pick up a free 60 day gamecard as well. Hit up their dev thread if you have questions about how the mod works -- hopefully we'll see some creative entries here when the times come to vote for a winner next month.

Server maintenance announced for November 4th

I'm not eating my hat quite yet, but Blizzard has announced server maintenance for tomorrow morning. This is not particularly surprising considering it's a Tuesday, but we don't know yet if we're getting patch 3.0.3 or not. It's a little unlikely since it isn't an extended maintenance, but only time will tell.

If patch 3.0.3 does hit tomorrow, we'll be sure to let you know and do our very best to gather up all of the information you need. Whether they patch or not, we'll be here to give you something to do. If you're a US citizen, you likely already have something to do, so don't worry about us for a little while, eh?

Breakfast topic: Wrath info poll

Most of the news coming up from Blizzard has focused on Wrath of the Lich King. We've been working to cover the most up-to-date information on the expansion while staying on top of current events in the existing game. I am excited for Wrath, but I'm taking my time to enjoy the now until it comes out. There are still plenty of interesting non-Wrath-related things going on.

It can be a tough balance between sharing new mechanics and presenting spoilers. We've added features to the site like Ask a Beta Tester and Lichborne, which can be readily ignored if you're not up for spoilers. We've had some requests to slow down on the Wrath news, but many many more to keep it up. How much information do you want before the xpac is released? Take our little poll and let us know where you stand.

I want to know:
The release date, nothing more3442 (47.6%)
All about the Death Knight class341 (4.7%)
Map out the zones but leave some surprises526 (7.3%)
Absolutely everything, spill it already2431 (33.6%)
Doesn't matter, I'm in the beta226 (3.1%)
Not much, Wrath of the Lich King doesn't thrill me267 (3.7%)

Vote for the best piece of advice!

Last week I asked you to leave a comment with tips of anti-advice you could give to players. Things like "Be sure to move in the flame wreath so you're not cold when the blizzard hits!" or "Just walk up to Archimonde, he won't agro until you hit him." You all responded in force and gave lots of good tips and pieces of advice. Now for fame and no-fortune, lets vote for the best one!

I'll close the voting next weekend and announce the winner on Monday April 21st. Vote now! I did!

Which of the following is the best advice?
Remember to BoP your main tank. You might save his life.1328 (20.7%)
Type /camp it?s a new emote after patch 2.4558 (8.7%)
Okay guys. Everyone into the whelp cave.672 (10.5%)
Prot Paladins can heal themselves, so healers should only concentrate on the Warriors.1033 (16.1%)
While in a battleground: Everyone type /afk list to see what players are AFK.1780 (27.8%)
Hey warriors, that red bar? It?s your threat meter. Make sure to keep it full as much as possible.1030 (16.1%)

Ron Paul's World of Warcraft rally

On New Year's day supporters of Republican presidential hopeful Ron Paul gathered on the Whisperwind (US) realm in World of Warcraft to march across Azeroth and show their support for their candidate of choice. The rally started outside Ironforge with approximately 240 players (with 400 members in their RP Revolution guild) and traveled to Stormwind, Westfall, Booty Bay, Ratchet, and finally Orgrimmar. And if you didn't make it, you can still experience the rally vicariously via our image gallery below (and if you did make it, feel free to send screenshots to us at aroundazeroth@wow.com!) or video above!

To the best of our knowledge, this was the first political rally to be held in World of Warcraft -- and looking at their numbers it seems to have been a successful and upbeat gathering (or at least it was upbeat for the participants). Will this event help Ron Paul's chances in the election? It's hard to say until the votes are cast, but the uniqueness of the event is causing it to get a lot of media coverage. (And no press is bad press, so long as they spell your name properly, right?) Read on for impressions of the event.
