Around Azeroth: Elemental fury

Considering the headaches and sheer frustration involved in running even the most well-disciplined raid group, you've got to admire Mathirin of <The Blackguard> on Wyrmrest Accord. According to our submitter, Oesah, Mathirin has been shepherding multiple cross-guild groups through old world and Burning Crusade raid content. Oesah sent in this picture from a recent successful Archimonde raid, which seems to be heavy on the shamans. Way to go!

Around Azeroth: Battle of the BlizzCons

Xtoferal of <Order of Valtiel> on Ravencrest writes, "After a server restart forced our 10-man Ulduar group to take a break before we fought Auriaya, as we were logging back in and waiting to regroup, I decided to pull out my handy Murloc costume. Another member of the raid summoned his pet Murky. Jealous because I wish I had that pet, I tried to show off by dancing. But Murky was having none of that. He ignored me the entire time. Sadness."

Around Azeroth: Kind of blue

This is just a nice little character portrait of Blood Elf Death Knight Valanar in Icecrown. Death knights blend in well with the ice and blue of Northrend, but I can't help thinking about how silly they look in, say, Stranglethorn Vale. Pale, deathlike skin, brightly glowing eyes, and thick armor with spikes are not ideal for wandering around a jungle hunting down tigers.

Around Azeroth: And it stoned me

Do any of you old-school Final Fantasy types remember the spell Break? It was supposed to inflict the status "Petrify" on your enemies, turning them to stone. But just like Blind, Confuse, Doom and Toad, it never seemed to work quite as well on opponents as it worked on your character. Bonaduce of <Swords for Hire> on Quel'dorei has discovered the root of the problem. It seems that status-effect-inducing spells tend to jump through space and time to land in other games entirely. This particular petrification spell is hitting a dwarf in an Ironforge basement here in 2009, but it was really cast at a Veil Dancer in Zozo back in 1995. By me.

Around Azeroth: Care and feeding of the Core Hound

No, you cannot go out for a walkie right now. I know you have to take a widdle -- I know that all too well, considering you flooded half this cell last night when you were dreaming about the Stonewrought Dam. But we have to stay in here until the Random Number Generator pulls up your name to fight a group. Then we can both get out of here, you can utilize the restroom, and I can wait until the group kills you and then finally eat your succulent hell-beast flesh. What? Oh, I said that I can wait until the group pets you and eat a succulent piece of tofu. That's right. That's what I said.

(Thanks to Kaandemiro of <Order of Shadows> on the Forgotten Coast, who managed to find humor in his accidental entrapment behind Lavanthor's cage portal in the Violet Hold.

Around Azeroth: Compensating for something?

Ahinawee of <Cue Ominous Music> on Skywall has some strange habits. "While posing for our guild's first kill of Thorim, I noticed that he had a pretty short skirt," he writes. "With some weird curiousity, I started to tilt the camera up. You can see the result on the screenshot. Maybe we now know why Sif left him."

Around Azeroth: The Sith lord

Hey, I can't wait for The Old Republic either, but this might be going too far. Demonicwiz of <No Bull> on Eonar showed his commitment to the Dark Side by enchanting his Argent Avenger with Demonslaying, creating a red lightsaber. He then added a hood and robe to complete his ensemble. Now if only we could make a double-bladed purple saber ....

Around Azeroth: Cruising for a bruising

Hey! You! Scarlet Crusade girl! Take a look over here. That's right. Look at what I did to your pal with my mighty wand. This small stick of cedar and glass will be the doom of all who inhabit this chapel. Look upon me and ... oh. That's kind of a big sword. A big, sharp sword. How can you even lift it? So anyway, I'm here to make a donation to your fine ministry. Would all my gold be sufficient? Okay, I'm just going to drop it on the floor and take off. I ... uh ... left my kitchen on fire. Have a nice day!

(Thanks to Anthony for the screenshot! He adds that his mage massacred the Scarlets while leveling his wand skill to 400.)

Around Azeroth: Mmm ... bacon

As we all know, bacon is the candy of meats, making everything a little better. Unfortunately, there's only one type of bacon in WoW -- the quest reward Hellfire Bacon. So our characters can only eat twenty pieces of bacon, ever, in their entire life. Luckily, Imika of <Enigma> on Windrunner has come up with a fine solution to this problem. When Horde members approach this feast, the ring of bombs around it will explode, searing both the ham and the intruder into light, crispy perfecton. Then a local rogue cuts thin slices of meat from their bellies and leaves it to hang, and voila! Not only do you have bacon, but you've got a decent supply of Fjord Fried Orc and Sentient Beef Liver for the next time you crave something unusual.

Around Azeroth: Storm across the sea

Our anonymous submitter sent in this picture titled "Baddest Shammy Screenshot Ever!" and I've got to agree with him there. It's always nice when character screenshots end up looking like something that should be part of a cinematic. Anyway, he writes that this effect was caused by the use of Thunderstorm while Water Walking. Hmm. I'm sure that goes against National Weather Service recommendations. If you see an elemental shaman in the area, get to shore and seek shelter immediately!

Around Azeroth: Big brother is watching you

We've been getting a lot of glitch screenshots yesterday, so I'm trying to be more picky and only use the most unusual ones. This shot of Wintergrasp from Bundead of <Monolith> on The Sentinels definitely qualifies. The normal tree textures have been replaced with the head of an angry, bald man. Has the Warden program become sentient and started to stalk players through the gamescape? Or is Bundead being followed by the decapitated head of a Lego figurine?

Around Azeroth: Crystal blue persuasion

Resurgmal of Dread Pirates on Blackrock writes, "I was indulging in the old-time sport of climbing, along with some of the rest of the raid, in some down time previous to another Yogg attempt. (We finally downed him. YAY!) A Death Knight left this dramatic backdrop of pure evil, so naturally I had to grab a screenshot or two." Quick, Yogg, attack him while he's frozen for massive damage! Why, no, I haven't been playing the Crystal Chronicles games all weekend. Why do you ask?

Around Azeroth: Wiping is ugly business

After a wipe in Naxxramas, Meshenko of Proudmoore zoned back in to find some of his raid members suffering from the familiar facial texture bug. He snapped this picture of a deformed human warlock looting Gothik the Harvester's corpse after they downed the boss. Equally interesting to me is the motley crew in the background. From left to right, we have someone zonked out on Pygmy Oils, a female draenei in the most awkward spellcasting position ever, and what appears to be a warrior being devoured by a water elemental. Hey, people have to find some way to pass the time while the officers look over the DKP.

Around Azeroth: The devil inside

The Argent Crusade ought to consider keeping a close eye on our submitter Carlos. For a holy paladin, he seems to be harboring an awful lot of evil-goat-demon inside his soul. Actually, Carlos writes that his frightening shadow was caused by some clever positioning behind a mountain goat in Howling Fjord. I wonder if Anakin Skywalker can make the same excuse?
