Just about everybody is preparing to see patch 4.0.6 on live realms tomorrow. The patch 4.0.6 patch notes have come a very long way from what they looked like when the patch first appeared on the PTR at the beginning of January. This is not a content patch, so it isn't heralding any new raids or instances, but the patch notes are quite long -- it's the first significant balancing pass since Cataclysm went live.

Patch 4.0.6 is right around the corner. Isn't it about time we discuss what this means to the retribution paladin? You've all waited for this long enough, so let's skip the pleasantries and get right down to it.

We're going to go through the paladin patch notes relevant to retribution paladins one by one. Do note that we are not covering all of the paladin patch notes, such as the mana cost changes to heals or those that impact holy and protection talents. While some of those things may technically impact retribution, we would all much rather talk about issues very specifically related to hitting things with a righteous vengeance until they die.

Let's dig in.

The official patch 4.0.6 PTR patch notes were updated yet again this evening. The updates to the patch notes aren't particularly long. Combine that with a certain placeholder blog post (which will certainly be removed soon) on the official Battle.net blog, and signs are good that the patch will be releasing soon. The team will be hard at work this weekend cleaning up and assembling our patch 4.0.6 resources, but until then, you'll need to be content with these patch note updates.

Updates to Tol Barad (which Mat McCurley will be discussing shortly), fishing, jewelcrafting and more are behind the break below.

There are worse things in the world than crawling out of your warm, comfortable bed the one night you decide to go to sleep early so you can post an update to the patch 4.0.6 patch notes. I'm too tired to figure out what they are at the moment, but they exist.

Here are some highlights from today's updates:

• Warlocks: Fel Armor has been redesigned. It now surrounds the caster with fel energy, increasing spell power and causing the warlock to be healed for 3% of any single-target spell damage he or she deals.
• Items: The Honor Commodities and Justice Commodities Vendors now sell raw tradeskill materials. These are not intended to be a cost-effective source of these materials, but an option for players with lots of Justice or Honor Points who have already purchased all of the gear that interests them.
• Rogues: Blade Flurry is now a toggle that can be turned off by pressing the button again. In addition, this ability no longer has a fixed duration, but will go on cooldown for 10 seconds after being canceled (similar to Stealth).

An updated version of the patch 4.0.6 patch notes from the PTR has been unveiled. This includes the recent shaman and warlock changes that have been discussed, as well as many additional changes across the board to heroics.

Some highlights include:

• Baron Ashbury: Sadly, in his hubris he has forgotten how to Mend Rotten Flesh.
• Ozruk: There is now a precast visual on the ground to make it clear how far away a player must get to be clear of Shatter.
• Earthrager Ptah's Flame Bolt now deals more damage per second on Heroic difficulty.
