WoW Mobile Armory updates for Mists of Pandaria

Mists updates to WoW Mobile Armory

The WoW Armory mobile app has received an update for Mists of Pandaria. Several features have been added, including support for Mists features such as the pandaren race and the monk class.

The new talent system has also been added, allowing you to inspect each talent's tooltip, and to inspect the talents, specialization spells and glyphs of any player, in both specs. I personally found the way the talent screens work to be a little confusing. The default screen when you hit the talents button is actually the list of spec-specific spells, and the method for getting to the talents and glyphs isn't entirely obvious. In case you're having the same struggle as I had, slide the screen to the left to reveal the other screens.

Additionally, account-wide achievements are now in, with certain achievements highlighted in a fetching blue color -- the account level achievements such as Battlemaster. The new achievements for Mists of Pandaria have also been added.

Various bugs were fixed, and Italian language support has been implemented. And, of course, the mobile armory's entire arsenal was release for free on August 23, including the mobile auction house and mobile guild chat.

World of Warcraft Remote services now free to all players

World of Warcraft Remote free to all players
Users of the World of Warcraft Remote subscription service just got some interesting news today. Apparently, WoW Remote features, including the mobile auction house and guild chat, have been made available to all players for free starting today. Remote services still require a capable smartphone, of course, so if you're still using that old Nokia brick, it may be time to upgrade.

Now that these features are being made free, I wonder if this means new premium features are in the works? What do you think -- mobile pet battles?

Update: Blizzard has released the formal announcement on the official World of Warcraft community site.

Players who had previously been paying for a WoW Remote subscription are also reporting that they received thank you emails from Blizzard, along with 7 free days of game time for their active WoW accounts, and a Lil' XT non-combat pet to keep or give to a friend.

WoW Armory Remote Auction House beta is live

The World of Warcraft Armory is now beta testing a long-awaited feature for the iPhone and iPod touch -- the remote auction house. During the beta test, all features -- including premium features like buying and selling items and collecting gold are available for testing and free to use. After the beta test ends, a subscription to World of Warcraft Remote will be required to access these features -- for now though, it's all free. Check out the full F.A.Q on the auction house system, and download the tool for testing from the Armory website.

If you do not have an iPhone or iPod touch, the web version of the Remote Auction House is also in beta testing -- players with characters on the servers available for testing can access the Auction House for their realm via the Armory website. The full list of servers available for beta testing is after the break.

Update: A gallery for the web feature has been added.

The App features the ability for users to see a number of important things on their iPhone that they normally would be able to get in-game or through use of the official armory site. • PvP leader boards
  • Talent calculators
  • Official Blizzard news
  • An integrated item browser
  • In-game calendars
You can download the app right now from the WoW Armory page and the App Store. The app is free. This is the second mobile application Blizzard has developed, the first being a mobile authenticator app.

More murmurs from the mobile front

Blizzplanet continues to track down hints at what Blizzard might be planning in the mobile space, i.e. on the iPhone or another mobile computing platform (that Android Dream demo looked pretty sweet, too). Recently, Blizzard posted a job opening for a web software engineer, and while of course that could be for improvements to the Armory, or for the upcoming changes to Battle.net, but considering that many mobile apps are web apps nowadays, that position could definitely be put to work developing a web interface specifically for mobile platforms.

And the second hint is a little more concrete: our sister site Massively has mentioned Vollee before -- they're a company that claims to be able to stream a PC game experience to a mobile platform like the iPhone. They've already created a Second Life client, and Blizzplanet notes that in one of their recent press releases, they mention that they've been working with Activision Blizzard on a partnership. There are a lot of games under the Activision Blizzard banner nowadays, of course, but WoW is the biggest one of them, and it's definitely the MMO Vollee would want to be working on.

Blizzard hasn't officially announced any version or WoW application for any mobile platforms, of course, and even if one was in the planning stages, there's no guarantee we'd ever see it in an releaseable form. But there's definitely a call to bring facets of World of Warcraft to mobile computing, and if they can work it out in a form they find acceptable, it would undoubtedly be popular.
