WoW Moviewatch: Game of Gnomes

Game of Gnomes is a pretty good send-up of HBO's massive epic series based on the books of the same name. Slightly Impressive obviously couldn't feature some of the naughtier aspect of the show, but he definitely pointed out some of the more absurd ones.

That throne of swords is pretty amazing. We need that model in game. And I have always wondered about that "Winter is Coming" thing, especially when they're standing neck deep in snow. If nothing else, Game of Gnomes gets you caught up on the basic things you need to know about the series.

Hodor. Hodor Hodor Hodor.

WoW Moviewatch: Gargoyles: Ji-Kun

Fifth Element keeps on delivering. This time, their opening portrays the crack raid team as those legendary Gargoyles. These videos are like taking a long, pleasant drink of nostalgia lemonade on a warm summer Saturday morning. My hat is continually off to these guys for the mind-blowing animations and non-stop awesomeness. It's really amazing.

It's simply a bonus that they killed Ji-Kun in the last pull of the night.

WoW Moviewatch: This machinima was scientfically created to put you to sleep

This fine video is brought to you by Fireside Guild. Not only is it beautiful to watch, but it could be one of the best sleeping aids you'll ever encounter. See, Weightless by Marconi Union was created along with the British Academy of Sound Therapy to be one of the most relaxing songs ever heard. They were so successful that listeners are warned not listen to the song while driving.

I can vouch for the effectiveness. In the early heady days of parenthood, when the Shieldling refused to go to sleep, my wife and I resorted to playing this song for her. And it worked. If there wasn't something particularly wrong (like diapers), then Weightless would put her to sleep. It's amazing.

I am thrilled beyond words to see it put to a WoW machinima. Nice job, Fireside!

WoW Moviewatch: The Blingtron 4000 Song

Those rapscallions from the Fireside Guild are back with this clever homage to one of the most frustrating robots in the history of WoW. Nimii and Behradin nailed the truth of the matter in The Blingtron 4000 Song: you will never get the Orb of Mystery from him. Never.

The singing in this video is fantastic and the animation is equally fun. Nimii's skills are obvious and I always look forward to what they're going to do next. In the words of Olivia, "I quite like this one." I think you'll agree.

Phat Loot Phriday: Blossoming Ancient

Phat Loot Phriday Blossoming Ancient
The miniature ancient crossed its arms and disapprovingly glared back at Throgg. For his own part, the orc sat on his heels, kneeling to stare intently at the tiny wood creature.

"The new rule," Lolegolas sighed, "is that every time you make me ask 'What are you doing?' then you also have to buy me a backrub."

"Little elf," Throgg complained. "It's happening."

Just quickly enough to see, the Blossoming Ancient's white, faded leaves burst with vibrant green. Small flowers appeared on its branches.

"Wait, did that just... is it blooming?"

"Blossoming," Throgg countered. "It's Blossoming. Ooh! Look, a flower!"

"Where did you get it?" Lolegolas asked. "That's awesome, I want one."

The ancient gave Lolegolas a huffy, annoyed look in response.

"It seems like you'll have to get it from the Store," Throgg answered. "But I think it's worth it."

"Absolutely," Lolegolas said. "Completely worth it."

The Blossoming Ancient huffed and walked his flowers on down the road.

Item Note: Details are scarce, but so far, it does seem like you'll get this guy from the Blizzard Store.

Breakfast Topic: That's the zone that I used to know

Maybe I just can't get that song out of my head yet... you know the one. But I was kicking back last night thinking about Silithus, and how it's that zone that I used to know. And then the expansions came along and they cut me off, making it out like those hours running around gathering the spice never happened.

But zones are like that. You spend untold hours farming spice, or getting yeti parts, fighting undead forever and a day, or just farming giant earthworms. And then an expansion comes along and now you're just rifling through dailies with every ounce of tolerance you can muster. That old favorite zone (Silithus, Plaguelands, and so on) becomes a distant memory.

What's the zone that you used to know? That one that was part of your daily routine but now, steeped in the brews of Pandaria, you can't believe was ever a part of your life.

WoW Moviewatch: Quest Busters Episode 2 - Those Bears Up There

AFK Players have returned with a sequel to Quest Busters. It's hard to find the words to properly describe Quest Busters Episode 2 - Those Bears Up There. With mindblowingly good animation, astounding flow, and a hilariously engaging script, this machinima will easily be one of the best WoW videos of the year.

Don't let yourself miss out on the astounding appearance of Thor Ultralisk of Void Ray EX. It is one and a half minutes of pure joy, all wrapped up in a clever parody song. Of course, Thor Ultralisk isn't the only in-joke in the video, but you can spot plenty of your own.

Thanks to the AFK Players for an unbelievably good video. Here's hoping you find a tree of your own, one day in the near future.

WoW Moviewatch: Warcraft Club

One sentence makes Warcraft Club a complete win. "I've got you doing dailies for the rest of your natural born life if you don't watch your step." I don't know why it took us this long to get that line in a machinima, but it's here now.

Wowmartiean created these videos for epicpodcast.com and their 24-hour live charity stream. While the videos are a tiny bit rough, they were clearly created for love of learning and on behalf of child's play charities. You have to appreciate anyone who'll take a big bite out of a new skill on behalf of a good cause. My hat's off to you.

WoW Moviewatch: What Are NPC's Thinking 2

Wowcrendor delves into the conscious minds of NPCs with What Are NPC's Thinking 2. I think he was pretty accurate, even if I did feel super bad for the fish on the wall. ("I am... still... alive.") Wowcrendor always does an amazing job of pointing out odd little quirks in the game, like the chaps who's not quite fishing in the water. I laughed out loud.

WoW Moviewatch: TV in Azeroth 2

Slightly Impressive returns with TV in Azeroth 2, bringing with him a handful of amusing parodies and pointed jabs at pop culture. Some of the jokes went a little over my head, but others knocked it out of the park. Maybe that's the best thing about this kind of format: you get to do a huge variety of things.

In the Arms of the Naaru, you guys. Seriously, if for no other reason, you must watch this video to get a listen to In the Arms of the Naaru. I was not adequately prepared and I instantly spit my coffee out across the table. That's an inspired parody, right there.

WoW Moviewatch: Truth About Murlocs

Thanks to Caliswow for suggesting Truth About Murloc. It's been a while since I've revisited Darkpippi's Kermit-perfect parody and relaxed to the dulcet tones of a ravenous murloc. It's hard to go from the chill lyrics of Truth About Rainbows to the inevitable consumption of all life by Murlocs, but Darkpippi has managed that feat very well. This is a song for the ages.

WoW Moviewatch: Fallout - Megaera

Here's another incredible video from Fifth Element. This time riffing on Fallout, the 2 minute intro features all the nostalgic awesome you could possibly want. I'm continually impressed by how these guys manage to kick out these amazing videos, one after another.

This video features a special treat. If you keep an eye on the wall posters, you can spot a shout out to this article by Brian Wood. So, Fifth Element may agree that, "Yes, beast mastery can raid."

WoW Moviewatch: MMO

If you walked up and said, "Gray, we've got this Nickelback parody..." I'd probably just turn and run away. I'm not judging or anything, but Nickelback isn't really my thing. I can't imagine how you'd do a good Nickelback WoW parody.

And then I saw MMO. With real-to-the-band vocals, that one riff the band does so well, and a real sense of poetry, MMO is actually pretty good. It's leagues better than the original song, which was always a little uncomfortable. But MMO does a good job of that WoW Widow thing without making the widow out to be the bad guy. The song's a little old, but it's still worth a listen.

WoW Moviewatch: Cowboy Astalder

Cowboy Astalder serves as a guild recruitment video, wrapping its alluring message in a smooth parody of Cowboy Bebop. Even if that show isn't your thing, you should still be able to enjoy the hip animation, clever use of color, and entertaining music.

I'm not sure the guild is still recruiting, since this video is a few years old. But since a good video can last forever, a few years late isn't too late to enjoy this awesome piece of work. Nice job, Adorias!

WoW Moviewatch: Tell Me A Story

I'm not sure what I just watched. It started off like a beautiful children's book, filled with exploration and wonder and even a cute little frog. Then the music kept winding up and things started getting kind of weird. Then, all of a sudden, frogs were overwhelming the world and they were all friends and it felt like frogs were taking over the world.

The animation is decent, even if it has some telltale black line where the models were being lay over top one another. Certainly, it matched the subject matter. While I'm not sure Tell Me A Story would be my go-to video about hallucinogenic drugs, but it'd be pretty close to the top.
