Drama Mamas: Of flings and friendships

Drama Mamas Lisa Poisso and Robin Torres are experienced gamers and real-life mamas -- and just as we don't want our precious babies to be the ones kicking and wailing on the floor of the checkout lane next to the candy, neither do we want you to become known as That Guy on your realm.

Harassment is as harassment does.
Dear Drama Mamas,

To put it simply, I am incredibly overwhelmed by a mix of issues with my guild both online and off. I have been with the same guild since about 2009(ish) and was one of the founding members. I assisted with raid leading, recruitment, and many other facets of keeping things running. Myself, our guild leader - who I will call J, and a fellow officer, W were all very close friends for several years.

Until I made a fatal mistake. During a guild event myself and W got... a little too close. I know it was a mistake and it has been having a negative impact on my life for several years now. Whenever I would date anyone else, W would become incredibly jealous and angry, to the point of threatening me, and making incredibly lewd remarks to me via e-mail or messenger services. J, on the other hand did not want to become involved (reasonably so, I think) and would not address the issue.

The Queue: Crack that whip

Welcome back to The Queue, the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Mike Sacco will be your host today.

Okay, sure, one more Castlevania music video to round out the weekend.

KvalriSunstrider asked:

Has it ever been explicity stated in lore that the Titanic Watchers or the Dragon Aspects are more powerful than the other? Is an NPC's Level an indication of their power (I mean lore power here, obviously it's an indication of their mechanical power) or of where they fall in the universe's timeline? I know I sometimes try to apply conventional wisdom to WoW where it isn't really applicable, but this has been driving me nuts as I've gotten more and more into the lore.

Unlike old Transformers toy boxes, there's no convenient Power Level Rating for most Azerothian beings. We're not sure who's stronger, or how that strength would even be measured, for that matter.

The Queue: La hora es tarde

Welcome back to The Queue, the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Mike Sacco will be your host today.

I guess I'm doing two Castlevania music videos in a row. Will tomorrow be the hat trick?!

NunoMarce asked:

Is there any criteria Blizzard uses when sending free gameplay weeks for inactive accounts ? I ask because I want to resub my girlfriend's account but I was waiting for the free week so she could play the free seven days plus the month, but so far she never got the email from Blizzard. Should be worth mentioning we both received several free weeks in the past, and I got mine as soon as 5.2 hit. Some friends of mine even got the free week twice! What gives?

Honestly, I couldn't tell you. I'm sure Blizzard has internal criteria for sending out the free weeks -- you could try asking the BlizzardCS Twitter account.

The Queue: Castlevaniacapella

Welcome back to The Queue, the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Mike Sacco will be your host today.

I've been watching all the video game acapella videos this guy made. I love them.

OolongSOE asked:

Wasn't Blizzard going to increase the guild max level to 30 with Mist of Pandaria? Has there been any word if this will actually happen before the last 5.x expansion?

The devs talked about doing this but ultimately backed out, saying they felt it was just updating for updating's sake instead of for a compelling reason. There's been no further indication that the guild level cap will be raised in MoP. We'll see what the next expansion brings.

The Queue: Lollipop and removing heroic dungeons from the random LFG tool

Welcome back to The Queue, the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Adam Holisky (@adamholisky) will be your host today.

Enjoy the above video.

Really, enjoy it. A friend at my other gig showed this to me earlier this week -- it's been annoyingly stuck in my head ever since. And before anyone goes there, no, there is no hidden meaning to lollipop, the song writer has even come out and said it just means don't get done with your childhood too fast, that love will find you.

Anyways, once again, enjoy.

Jackson asked:

We know heroic scenarios are coming, and today I learned these are only for premade groups, but I can't seem to find info on whether the new scenarios are heroic only or not. Will I be able to run non-heroic versions with an LFD group?

The Queue So it goes
Welcome back to The Queue, the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Adam Holisky (@adamholisky) will be your host today.

In today's Queue we go over LFR trolling, professions, BlizzCon 2013, and cookies. Let's get started, lest we become unstuck in time.

KuRo asked:

Why does Blizz make trash pulls in LFR that are insanely trollable?

We had two druids healing last night with Nature's Vigil popped and they kept pulling Tortos over and over till they got caught and kicked.

(Nature's vigil BTW: While active, all single-target healing spells also damage a nearby enemy target for 25% of the healing done. The spell has a super long range. We had issues with it popping CC in WindyBlade Lord in HoF too. )

Drama Mamas guide to preventing multiplayer gaming drama

Drama Mamas guide to preventing multiplayer gaming drama DNP
Social drama -- sticky, sticky stuff. The problem with drama in a multiplayer game is that even acknowledging its existence usually engenders more. That's why so many guilds prohibit airing drama as well as any potentially controversial topic in public chat channels. Smart gamers don't manage social drama -- they dodge it.

The first line of defense against drama for most players is membership in an effective guild. Savvy guilds provide a drama-free zone by offering clear, explicit guidelines and rules on common bones of contention such as loot, raid attendance, and player behavior. Debate and controversy are handled in private chat channels or forums. Not at all an attempt to squash freedom of expression, a no-drama edict is designed to free players from being forced to bear witness to an outbreak of drama, allowing guild officers to clean up the mess quickly and effectively behind the scenes. (Learn more about the structure and habits of highly effective guilds in WoW Insider's weekly Officers' Quarters.)

But no guild can protect every player from the ravages of social drama. Where there are people, there will be drama. Fights with your mom or your spouse over game time, finding a guild whose definition of PG chat matches yours, handling an inappropriate player crush ... Let the Drama Mamas show you how to prevent most drama and dodge the rest.

Welcome back to The Queue, the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Mike Sacco will be your host today.

I finished BioShock Infinite last night and by golly was that a heck of an ending. Highly recommended. Rent it if you can't buy it.

John22 asked:

What is up with new pets dropping from old bosses (Karazan, SSC)? I'm not complaining, but could it be a sign of revamping to come? Heroic Kara? New area discovered? Those scary tombs?

Highly unlikely. Besides a few tweaks to make soloing or small-group play in those raids easier, no changes were made to the other old raids when they added pets to them. Not that I wouldn't love to do heroic Karazhan, mind you.

I love this video. What a vicious monster!

drorraz asked:

With the new raiding with leashes pets dropping from SSC bosses, do we get to enter that place solo or do we still have to group for that part?

You can enter any pre-MoP raid without needing a raid group. You've actually been able to for a while!

The Queue: Myotonic goats

Welcome back to The Queue, the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Anne Stickney (@Shadesogrey) prefers fainting to yelling when given a choice of goat.

Poor little mytonic goats. Contrary to their name, fainting goats don't really faint -- it's just their muscles spontaneously seizing up. Thankfully it doesn't hurt the little guys, but man. Nature is weird.

wowscard asked:

Q4tQ: Are Scenarios the new Dungeons? Seriously, Blizzard seems to be moving away from the 5-man Tank/Healer/3DPS dungeon model (they've stated no more 5-mans in MoP) and moving toward a more 3 of anything scenario model. They added scenarios with MoP as an additional feature, but with the move to now "Heroic" scenarios, it screams "replacement." Are the days of 5-man dungeons numbered?

It's funny you should ask, because I wrote a fairly in-depth piece about this yesterday.

The Queue: Sunday Sunday Sunday

Welcome back to The Queue, the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Mike Sacco will be your host today.

Prepare to be ANNIHILATED!

Mikk asked:

With the new 5.3 pvp changes and the announcement that resilience will be removed from most items, has there been any indication of what they are going to do with pvp heirlooms? As a recent devote to pvp, I have been working on accumulating all the pvp heirlooms and I would hate to see all that work wasted ... Maybe they will replace the pvp resilience with pvp power on heirlooms? Any info appreciated.

The patch 5.3 PTR patch notes came out before a blog about the PVP changes could be published, so I imagine we'll be hearing a lot about what the changes mean for various types of gear soon (after PAX East).

The Queue: Hearthstone

Welcome back to The Queue, the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Anne Stickney (@Shadesogrey) has taken this thing over today.

I like to think those two cats are excitedly discussing anything relevant in the news. Today they are chatting about Hearthstone and whether or not they're going to sign up for the beta.

Adamndm_ asked:

Allow me to be the first to ask the obvious question we don't have a solid answer for yet: What is Hearthstone's release date?

We don't know, but supposedly it's soon -- not Blizzard Soon™, but actual soon!

EavenTheWarlock asked:

Q4tQ: Do you thing Hearthstone will eventually get an Android version? *tinfoil hat on* Or did they make a secret deal with apple to keep it exclusive?

They actually answered that question in their FAQ! Q: Are you supporting Android tablets? A: Hearthstone will launch on Windows, Macintosh, and, later on, iPad. We're looking into the possibility of supporting additional platforms in the future, but we don't have any further info to share at this time.

lucho_pinto asked:

I expect to see tomorrow's Q filled with Hearthstone questions that we don't know the answer to yet :D Kudos to whoever's tackling it tomorrow! I'll add my own question-that-probably-doesn't-have-an-answer-yet: Will this use/accept money from Diablo's RMAH? To buy boosters?

Let's get in a cab. I'll buy you a kebab!

stingjc asked:

Do I need to have completed any of the Black Prince quests to loot a sha-touched weapon? I still need to collect one more Sigil of Power to get the gem, but Spiritsever hasn't dropped for me yet after ten rolls. Is my RNG really that bad, or do I need to finish The Strength of One's Foes?

Nope, I haven't completed The Strength of One's Foes on my DK and just yesterday got a Shin'ka from the Sha of Fear. You just have rotten luck!

The Queue: Give us more draenei

Welcome back to The Queue, the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Matthew Rossi will be your host today.

We're just going for the questions today.

dashric asks:

Where are all the Draenei in the Kirin Tor Offensive Base camp. You'd think that in the time since wrath there'd be a few Draenei who are attuned with crystal energies in the kirin tor; or at the very least a commoner sitting around like the Dwarf, gnome, and Human.

There's an in-game reason, which is that for a while now the draenei have been trying to decide whether or not they should even stay on Azeroth. If you remember the Prophet's Lesson short story, the Exodar was repaired and the draenei had to decide whether or not they were going to remain on Azeroth or head out into the cosmos again. Ultimately they chose to remain, to prepare for the war between light and darkness that Velen foresees, but it was the big issue taking up most of their time.

However, I do think that it's kind of silly that we have blood elves, goblins, even worgen integrated more into the world than the draenei are. There's a draenei serving alongside the Kirin Tor forces (he gives quests in the Za'Tual area) but he doesn't even appear to be a mage. And yes, there's a draenei in the SI:7 forces that came to Pandaria, but I still feel like we could do with some more draenei out and involved in the world.

Hopefully the next expansion will give draenei some screen time. At present I'm seeing so many high elves I'm starting to wonder why they aren't a playable Alliance race.

The video gamer's guide to time management

Aside from the lingering social stigma that tells us that hours immersed in an interactive game world are somehow less acceptable than hours connected to an intravenous TV drip, most of us have come to accept that video gaming has achieved full-fledged hobby status among its aficionados. Like most hobbies, it's a hungry one. Even in console games that spin a story to an inevitable conclusion, replay and achievements and hard modes and alternative endings beckon. With a subscription MMO game like World of Warcraft, the entertainment is designed never to end.

Unfortunately, your supply of time to play is not equally boundless.

Those hopeless, choked nights when you fear there is no possible way to hack your way into the thicket of tasks waiting to tear you to shreds come dawn are no reason to cut off your game subscription entirely. We'll show you why, and we'll follow up with tips and resources that help you keep all the plates spinning at once -- including some well-deserved game time.
