Warcraft wallpaper, costume, art, and comic updates

Another round of new art and updates has been added to Blizzard's official website. This time around, the costume updates are all featuring cosplay from BlizzCon 2013. Mylune makes another appearance, along with some stunning costumes of various tier sets and familiar characters from the franchise. In addition to the costume updates, a new wallpaper has been added to the fan art section. The piece, by Juyoung Oh, is a warlock flanked by a couple of Nightmare steeds and wings that would make Deathwing jealous.

And if you're still anxiously awaiting Warlords of Draenor, the concept art gallery has been updated with some new images. There are a few new concept pieces of draenei temples, as well as a pretty stunning piece of Tanaan Jungle lit at various times of day. Rounding it all off is an update to the comic section, appropriately themed for Hallow's End. Take a look at Blizzard's official post for links to all the new updates.

New Warcraft wallpaper, costumes, art and comic updates

Blizzard has put together another giant pile of updates to many of the fan content galleries on the official site this week. Included with this round of updates is a new wallpaper featuring Chen Stormstout, along with a new fan comic. But the highlight of the gallery updates this time around has to be the costume section, featuring a ton of the costumes and cosplay from Gamescom 2014. The attention to detail with all of that armor continually impresses me, and this round of updates features a ton of trolls!

I think what excited me the most, however, was the fact that we got a couple of new concept art pieces -- and this time, it's Warlords of Draenor art! Don't get me wrong, I love seeing the Mists of Pandaria concept art, but Draenor is so visually unique on the beta servers that I pretty much figured the concept art for the expansion had to be some amazing stuff. While we only got a couple of pieces this time around, I'm hoping we'll see more added as the weeks go on. Check out Blizzard's official post for links to all of the new additions.

New Warcraft wallpaper, costume, dessert, art and comic updates

Blizzard has put together another gigantic round of updates to many of the fan content galleries on the official site this week. Included with this update is a new wallpaper featuring Grommash Hellscream, a Pandaria-themed cake, another round of Mists of Pandaria concept art, and a new Warcraft fan comic. In addition to all of that, there's another group of images for the costume gallery, including the familiar face shown above. Cosplayer Lyz Brickley made the amazing recreation of everyone's favorite critter enthusiast Mylune for BlizzCon 2011, and we interviewed her about the process shortly after.

I think the costume section updates win out as my favorites for this round -- in addition to Mylune, there are several other really well done costumes featured, including an amazing Garona and even someone who chose to cosplay as a Training Dummy, of all things. This is also the first update we've seen to the dessert gallery in quite some time -- I'm hoping that means there are more updates on the way for that particular section as well. Check out Blizzard's official post for links to all of the new additions.

Warcraft wallpaper, costume, art, fan art and comic updates

It's been a while since we've seen any updates to the various galleries Blizzard has featured on the World of Warcraft site. Blizzard has just updated its costume and fan art galleries with a handful of new photos from various artists. The costumes are pretty clever, but my personal favorites have to be a really clever training dummy costume, and a checkered box that should be very familiar to anyone who has played on any of the beta servers over the years.

In addition to the costume and fan art galleries, there is a new community comic available in the comic gallery, as well as a new wallpaper featuring the Jade Forest rare, Martar the Not-So-Smart. And if that weren't enough, several new images of Mists of Pandaria concept art have also been added to the Blizzard art gallery. I do love the early hozen concept art, but I hope we get to see more of the concept art from Warlords, too. Check out Blizzard's official post for links to all of the new additions.

15 Minutes of Fame: Shooting Azeroth in all its HD glory

15 Minutes of Fame Screenshot photographer shoots Azeroth in all its HD glory
WoW wallpaper sites come, and WoW wallpaper sites go. You can always download a fresh look for your screen directly from Blizzard. But as satisfying as it is to set a novel desktop wallpaper that truly delights, I enjoy the process of poking around to find wallpapers from people who are passionate about WoW -- like WoWScapes, the passion project of a former raider and amateur photographer who's become fascinated with taking and sharing high-quality screenshots that showcase the striking beauty of Azeroth.

WoWScapes creator Jeremy (aka Rotted of Sen'jin-US) specializes in bringing eye-popping images to players who don't have the hardware or haven't slowed down enough to savor Azeroth's splendor. "In a way, I feel sorry for people who use low-end hardware and cannot thoroughly enjoy the beauty this game displays," he notes. "So with that being said, I have turned many heads and had many people say, 'Is that really what WoW looks like on max settings? All this time, I have been playing and have never seen blades of grass on the ground or bark on the trees.' It's responses like this that make me happy about sharing my 'photos.'"

Jeremy is currently adding two screenshots per week to WoWScapes. "I never had intentions to make money off of the website," he says. "It is strictly something I enjoy doing in my free time -- usually while my wife is raiding. Every wallpaper is free to download."

Moving desktop wallpaper brings tranquil WoW scenes to life

Moving desktop wallpaper brings tranquil WoW scenes to life
How many times have you run across various areas of Azeroth and snapped a screenshot for your desktop wallpaper? I've got an astonishing number of screenshots taking up space on mine -- and while some are dedicated to various articles, others were taken specifically to create desktop wallpaper. WoW's full of pretty scenery and tranquil vignettes that have little to do with murdering internet dragons, like the shot of Grizzly Hills shown above.

But what if that tranquil scene of Grizzly Hills were actually in motion? Discopriest over at Disciplinary Action asked herself that question and embarked on a quest to create moving wallpaper, scenes from WoW brought to life and ready to stick on your desktop. Disciplinary Action has the full instructions to download and implement Grizzly Hills onto your desktop, but Discopriest's gone one step further and is now asking for feedback and screenshot submissions for more moving bits of scenery. Have a favorite spot to hang out? Send Discopriest a still, and maybe you'll see it in motion as well.

I love the creativity involved with this whole process. Unfortunately, the Grizzly Hills desktop doesn't seem to work correctly on a setup with more than one monitor like my own. But it's still an incredibly creative way to implement WoW on your computer with a little more flair than your average screenshot. I hope we'll see some scenes from Pandaria some time in the future.

TCG wallpaper plus new fan art

Even if you don't play the official Trading Card Game, the latest wallpaper released is certainly worth a download. While you're there grabbing your new desktop background, you might as well peruse some of the newest fan artwork. My personal pick is the brooding dwarf, submitted by http://fdiskart.deviantart.com.

Don't forget: Blizzard is currently seeking top notch screenshots from Auchindoun: Auchenai Crypts. Whether you focus on the beauty and architecture, or are taking real-time combat shots, Blizzard wants your submissions.

Not feeling confident in your photographic talents? Check out our mini-guide to getting the perfect snapshot.

Do you like to use World of Warcraft desktop wallpapers? If so, do you prefer the official ones released by Blizzard, or so you have another source for your decorative needs?

Bonus: If you are a fan of Chris Jahosky's Tales from the Lion's Pride Inn webcomic, I strongly recommend checking out the latest wallpaper he's released.

New fan art, wallpaper, and a call for screenshots

Blizzard has been updating the artwork on the official website again, and that means new wallpapers and shiny new fan art!

The wallpaper features artwork from the World of Warcraft Trading Card Game, so if you play, or are simply a fan of WoW-themed depictions, it might be time to update your desktop background.

As for the fan art, much of it is holiday and Winter's Veil-themed, which often makes for some humorous images. Aside from being ever on the lookout for new fan artwork, Blizzard is also asking for some top-notch screenshots of Auchindoun: Auchenai Crypts.

They would like to see depictions of the architecture and the scenery, in addition to combat. If your screenshots are selected, as always, they will appear in the World of Warcraft Guide, along with your character's name. For a list of banned subject matter, screenshot-taking tips, and a drop-down menu featuring every area of which Blizz is needing screenshots, visit the Screenshot Submission Form.

While you're in the mood to snap some great shots, don't forget to take some holiday-themed ones, and enter Blizzard's latest holiday contest, to win some decent prizes!

Child's Play auction update: $300 raised

While wandering over to check out one of my favorite blogs, the Bronze Kettle, I noticed that they had posted this uber cute (and free) wallpaper.

Of course, the real reason that I headed over was to check out the status of their first charity auction for Child's Play. I was extremely pleased to hear that it had raised $300!

For those of you feeling out of the loop, or who would like a refresher (for charity), there are lots of places to go and find out what this Penny-Arcade charity is all about.

The Child's Play About page is an absolute fountain of information. It walks you through their mission and how they came to be, as well as the ways in which they work to benefit sick children, from funding pediatric research, to donating toys and games to enrich their lives.

It also provides very detailed contact info, as well as guidelines for donating, volunteering, and running your own auctions for their charity. It tells you everything you'll need to know about getting involved; for example, you cannot donate your used games and gaming machines, but you could set up an auction and donate from the sale.

The original post from Penny-Arcade, talking about why they started Child's Play, and what they hope to accomplish, is also very informative. For some perspective, they report that we (the gaming community) have already raised $200k, when we closed last year at only November at $260k! Also hit up the Child's Play events page, which lists (IRL) events that the organization holds.
