WoW Moviewatch: What Are NPCs Thinking 3

Just in time for the weekend, the master of comedy known as Wowcrendor has released a new video. In What Are NPCs Thinking 3, Wowcrendor tackles some of the more absurd, enigmatic NPCs of Azeroth. These characters provide the game a sense of vibrancy and population, but it can be hard to figure out what's supposed to be going on in their heads. Wowcrendor makes it so you don't have to wonder.

This series is probably my favorite Wowcrendor series in a while. The orcs fighting over a patch of grass is the best one. A patch of grass is a valuable thing, I guess.

Wowcrendor: The nice guy behind the biting machinima

One might expect a machinimist to be come at you with a rather snarky, biting personality, especially a creator who's known for poking fun at WoW player stereotypes. Not so Wowcrendor. Wowcrednor's a nice guy in the true sense of the word. He also happens to be funny -- funny enough, in fact, that the list of posts of his WoW machinima here at WoW Insider goes on for pages and pages.

So how does a nice guy who has fun making video game machinima end up making a living at it? We wondered, too, so we asked -– and nice guy that he is, Wowcrendor spilled all the beans.

WoW Insider: So you're living the dream, making a living making WoW videos. Congrats! How has that changed the way you play the game? Things must be quite different now.

Wowcrendor: It is really a dream come true. One day you're sitting in a college math class writing scripts about Mankrik's wife, and the next you're making a living off it. I don't think I ever saw it growing to the point it's grown to, but I'm thankful for it nonetheless.

As for how it's changed the way I play the game, I think it's actually impacted me negatively, as odd as that sounds. Before I made videos about the game, my sole focus was just having fun or getting involved in the virtual world of Azeroth. Now that I do this as a living, it really shifts your mindset. If I'm playing the game, I'm constantly thinking if something could be made into a video instead of actually focusing on enjoying the game. For example, before I started making videos, I raided in every expansion. I enjoyed raiding and even got to raid with the guy who inspired me to start making WoW videos, a surreal experience at the time.

WoW Moviewatch: If WoW Was Easy... er

Today on WoW Moviewatch, Wowcrendor presents us with a simple question: how easy do you think World of Warcraft could become? The context for this question obviously being that players are constantly complaining how easy the game has become over the years. Thoughts, anyone? Rants? Well-argued essays?

Anyway, to answer the question, Wowcrendor employs his usual style wherein which Billy presents the question and Crendor responds with several, increasingly absurd answers. I won't spoil any of the jokes (though I really want that robot) so just give it a watch.

I have to admit, it really is astonishing that Billy has retained his innocence and naivety over the years. You'd think after being slapped around by the harshness of reality so many times he'd have become jaded by now. But I guess he really is resilient ... Or maybe just extremely oblivious. Either way, props to you Billy. I wish I had your tenacity.

WoW Moviewatch: Orc vs Wild: Kun-Lai Summit

It's been a while since we've heard from Boar Thrills. Just in time for the Mt. Everest of WoW, Wowcrendor aims his careful camera firmly at wild yetis and freezing snow in Orc vs Wild: Kun-Lai Summit.

While I know it's intended to parody, Orc vs Wild is always a fun view of the game. It's an interesting, microscopic view of Azeroth's climates and its inhabitants, with just enough humor to keep the whole thing amusing. And, hey, who wants to miss any opportunity to say luckydoo out loud?

WoW Moviewatch: How to Win at Grammar

Grammar has been a plague to gamers for a long time. In the heat of battle, dodging fierce attacks and casting magical spells, you rarely have time to type at length. And even if you do manage to smash a few words out between attacks, you even less commonly have the time to check your grammar.

But there are limits to the largesse we grant one another about grammar. Which makes it a perfect time for Wowcrendor to educate us all on How to Win at Grammar.

WoW Moviewatch: Tillers are Greedy

Let's say you have some apples. And you want to give them to a friend. What's the thought that matters? That you tried to give some apples to your friend, or that you were just trying to get rid of them? Should you boost your generous reputation for giving away apples to every person you see? Is the existence of the apples that matters, or that you were giving them away?

I'm not sure Wowcrendor was looking to delve into that level of philosophy, but he picked the discussion in Tillers are Greedy. And let's be honest: they are. Just a little. Thank goodness for the drunk fish in the corner.

WoW Moviewatch: It's a Hard Gnome Life

It's a pleasure to say I've known Wowcrendor for years. Among the huge World of Warcraft community, I frequently hold him up as an example of working hard, constantly improving, and pursuing your craft with earnest devotion. Wowcrendor has achieved incredible success and he deserves every inch of it.

Not sure what I mean? Take a trip down memory lane and visit It's a Hard Gnome Life, one of Wowcrendor's first videos. Released in 2009, the video doesn't enjoy much of the sophistication, wry humor, and flair that we've come to expect from the man. Nonetheless, you can see the seeds of his comedy and recognize a few of his more famous voices.

Maybe, even, there's some lessons in It's a Hard Gnome Life and Wowcrendor for the rest of us. My hat's off to you, Wowcrendor. Keep on keeping on.

WoW Moviewatch: Controlled

In Controlled, the mercurial master of mayhem known as Wowcrendor addresses how our characters feel about being controlled by players. I found myself yearning for a Tron reference ("He fights for the user!") but the overall effect was pretty awesome.

The "how our characters feel about it" angle is certainly hilarious, but the line "Free Tauren" struck an interesting chord. You can imagine a huge group of wandering Tauren proclaiming their independence from the Controlls. It's like a cross between Tron and Dune.

WoW Moviewatch: Luckydo Rap

I think this is the first full-out Mists of Pandaria rap. So, hat's off to Wowcrendor for that achievement. Of course, I still couldn't quite sum up this video. It's just that awesome. So I reached out to Matthew "Uncle Grumpy" Rossi and asked him for three sentences to decribe it. This is what he said:
It's catchy. It's a touch too long. Don't listen to it if you don't want it to earworm you all day.
There you have it. Check out the Luckydo Rap by Wowcrendor and get it stuck in your head all day.

WoW Moviewatch: Wrath of the Lich King in a Minute

The thing about Wrath of the Lich King is that it was a fairly big expansion. Sure, perhaps it's not as beloved as The Burning Crusade by folks who really like to shout "You are not prepared!" but WotLK had plenty of its own iconic moments.

That's why the Master of Mirth, Wowcrendor, put together Wrath of the Lich King in a Minute, with special bonus sequel since he couldn't fit everything in a single minute. Take some time, remember those good cold days, and scream "In the mountains!"

Wowcrendor interviews Ghostcrawler, answers about Theramore's Fall

Blizzard Lead Systems Designer Greg "Ghostcrawler" Street has joined YouTube denizen Wowcrendor for an interview. You can check out the video above, and we've pulled out some highlights below:

What's the one thing Blizzard would have done differently in Cataclysm?

We would have worked the story around a continent rather than having zones. There was too much teleporting, and the sense of world was eroded. There was a lot of value in coming over the hill and seeing into the next zone, the transition. The teleporting created an instanced feel, and there wasn't the novelty. Mists has a whole new continent to explore, so that's something Blizzard have changed up for this expansion.

Why did Blizzard go with Cross-Realm zones over server merges?

Cross-Realm Zones were designed to fix the issue of having a ton of players at max-level, but lower level zones being dead. The experience of being in a MMO is lessened, so we wanted to fix that.

Closing and opening realms all the time is not the solution, we can't keep doing that incessantly. We also don't want 20,000 players running around Stormwind or other high-level zones! For players who like deserted zones, we're not really catering to that. WoW is not set up to be a single player game!

WoW Moviewatch: The Billy Story

One man has been a constant throughout Wowcrendor's career: Billy. Legend says that when Chuck Norris wandered the open plains of The Barrens, a single hair fell from his beard. That hair lands in the exact spot that Deathwing would (one day) pass through before the Cataclysm. Billy sprang up fully formed.

OK, that's a lie. But plenty of people have clamored for the origin story of Wowcrendor's masked avenger. Not since the Zorro has one character held so much allure. Without further ado, we present: The Billy Story.

WoW Moviewatch: How to Win at Aggro

Wowcrendor is back with another cutting critique of Azerothian culture in How to Win at Aggro. The video is fairly well focused on the way MMOs handle aggro radius and such, which is a favorite topic of gaming satirists everywhere.

What really blew me away about this video is its graphics. Sure, it's no Baron Soosdon, but Wowcrendor's really getting his guns together in the animation department. You can see how seriously Wowcrendor takes this work. While we don't see him around Azeroth as often as we once did, I'm glad for every chance to revisit his ineffable humor.

WoW Moviewatch: If Fans Ran World of Warcraft

Been feeling short on your Wowcrendor levels? Fear not, loyal subscriber of sarcasm and cynical wit, for the master of morose machinima has returned! This time, Wowcrendor tackles the question: What If Fans Ran World of Warcraft?

It goes without saying that most WoW fans have strong feelings about the game. But some of our collective notions about how WoW should be run can get a little insane. That being said, who doesn't think more dragons is a good idea?

WoW Moviewatch: Orc vs. Wild: Interactive Adventure

Wowcrendor's epic Orc v. Wild series serves up plenty of fun already. What could make it better than riding shotgun with Boar Thrills himself? That's exactly what Wowcrendor has accomplished with this impressive Orc vs. Wild: Interactive Adventure.

Using YouTube annotations, heaps of planning, and classic Wowcrendor-style humor, the Orc vs. Wild: Interactive Adventure lets you experience the many pitfalls of Azerothian adventure. Take the time to check it out, and let us know what you think in the comments.
