WRUP: Anticipating patch 5.3

Image
We finally know that patch 5.3 is right around the corner. Biting our fingernails and virtually panting with excitement, everyone at WoW Insider headquarters looks forward to the release with summery exultation.

So obviously, we asked our staff about more than just their weekend plans. We asked what each member is excited about in the new patch. The good, the bad, and the ugly; we wanted to know it all.

WRUP: Our hipster WoW

WRUP Our hipster WoW
Well, WoW's in the crosswords. We've gone mainstream. Time to pack it all in, trade out our fixie bikes and obsessions with animation and nerd stuff, put on a real suit, and get a real job.

Or... it's time to really get obscure. Our bonus question of the week: Now that WoW has been co-opted by the mainstream media, what truly hipster activity do you embrace to stay unique?

Brewing beer, writing novels, and arguing on the internet doesn't count.

WRUP: In which we get excited about BlizzCon

WRUP In which we get excited about BlizzCon
It's another weekend of fun and games for the intrepid staff of WoW Insider. But we just got our shot at buying BlizzCon tickets and we're all pretty excited.

Our bonus question this week: What are you hoping to see at BlizzCon? A new game? The new expansion? Or perhaps just some intriguing insight to the world of Blizzard?

Anne Stickney (@Shadesogrey) I am going to be writing like a maniac. If I'm lucky, I'll get some time to do LFR. If not, I'll ... well, I'll be writing like a maniac all weekend. As for BlizzCon, I'm hoping maybe we see the reveal of some of the new character models they've been talking about doing -- or a new expansion announcement. Or something, ANYTHING about Titan.

WRUP: We espouse about patch 5.3

WRUP We espouse about patch 53
Our bonus question this week asked your intrepid WoW Insider staff how they felt about the upcoming patch 5.3. But then, we found out our own Sarah Pine is getting married this weekend! Congratulations to Ms. Pine on the nuptials! Thanks for bringing a little extra joy to the weekend, and may you both have many wonderful decades ahead of you!

WRUP: Achoo! edition

WRUP Achoo! edition
How's those allergies treating you? Here in lovely Washington, DC, the cherry trees blossomed for an entire half hour or so before impending storms threatened to whip away every flower. In the meantime, though, allergies are thick enough that I'm pretty sure the Sha of Allergies is lurking around the corner.

Our bonus question this week: How do you feel about the pace of the expansion so far? It seems to be going pretty well, and it feels right. I mean, dailies, blah blah, but the content patches seem pretty swift.

WRUP: Our suggestions for April Fools' Jokes

WRUP Our suggestions for April Fools' Jokes
Well, WoW didn't get to do an April Fools' joke. That sucks but is totally understandable. But they've got their friends here at WoW Insider to help out. This week's bonus question is: What would you have done for a WoW April Fools' Joke?

Alex Ziebart (@AlexZiebart) This weekend I'm doing another playthrough of Bioshock Infinite. While not a perfect game, there are a couple instances where the narrative falls apart for the sake of shock value, most of it is pretty damn good. As for Blizzard April Fools' Joke, they should've changed the World of Warcraft logo on Battle.net to Titan.

WRUP: Of dinosaurs and patches

WRUP Of dinosaurs and patches
No Hearthstone so we'll have to kill some time with a game that we all currently play. No, not Bioshock: Infinite. I'm talk about WoW, the dinosaurs, and that upcoming patch. I can't speak for anyone else, but any patch that gets me closers to laying a keg of beer upside Garrosh's oversized melon is a patch I like.

By the way, does it bother anyone else that the orc looks so smug picking on the gnome? I always thought orcs were kind of bullies anyway, but they don't need to laugh about it. It just looks mean.

WRUP: Hearthstone and our secret shame

WRUP Hearthstone and our secret shame
Our bonus question this week was going to be about our dark, secret gaming habits. That was the plan. And then Blizzard went and released this mindblowingly awesome sounding game... so the bonus question changed. So when you're reading this, we're telling you both our guilty pleasure of gaming... and our excite about Hearthstone.

Anne Stickney (@Shadesogrey) This weekend is going to be spent working on projects around the house and getting some writing done. As for Hearthstone, it looks pretty neat! I think I may end up jumping in the beta just to play around with it and see how it works.

WRUP: How's that honeymoon doing?

WRUP How's that honeymoon doing
It's always a little funny when new patches come out. You start off just loving it... new stuff, new challenges. But then you get bored and start hating life. So, how about you guys? Is the honeymoon over?

Join our staff by telling us how you feel about the new patch in the comments. And, of course, read on in What Are You Playing to see what we're doing this weekend!

Anne Stickney (@Shadesogrey) I'll hopefully be spending the weekend on my new server. If not, then I'll be spending the weekend not really logging into WoW aside for dailies. As for 5.2 -- I love the patch, I love the content, I haven't really gotten bored with anything yet. However, the re-structuring and subsequent splintering of my guild has put a bit of sadness over the whole thing. On the other hand, the Isle of Thunder is tremendously entertaining, and every time I see a tree or structure struck by lightning I stand there marveling and hoping it will happen again because it looks really, really pretty.

WRUP: Dinosaur hunters

WRUP Dinosaur hunters
Another weekend is upon us and we're all doing our best dinosaur hunter impression. So when we asked the team what they're playing this weekend, we took the time to ask specifically about the patch. In this week's WRUP, we talk about exactly how patch 5.2 is going.

Adam Holisky (@adamholisky) SimCity 4000.

Anne Stickney (@Shadesogrey) I'll be writing this weekend mostly, and helping my dad with the atrium project if needed. And then raiding on Sunday, which leads me to the bonus answer: I absolutely love the Throne of Thunder. Hands down the best raid we've seen in a long, long time, and my guild is only at boss #4 in the thing. I do love exploring the Isle of Thunder and the Isle of Giants too, but man, that raid. That raid.

WRUP: Our crystal balls

WRUP Our crystal balls
It's like someone announced some big giant party. Oh? You mean BlizzCon in November? Yeah, that might be what we're thinking of. So it's time for your intrepid team of WoW Insider journalists to break out our crystal balls... and tell you what we think will go down.

Anne Stickney (@Shadesogrey) I'm going to be helping my dad - he's remodeling the atrium. It is a messy task but loads of fun! And also I have raiding on Sunday, which has returned to being loads of fun, too. Bonus answer: Expansion announcement, I'm hoping outer space because draenei, maybe new character models, maybe also a hint or two about Titan. So many possibilities this year for cool information, really!

WRUP: It's the final countdown!

Editor's Note: Mr. Gray doesn't know how to read a calendar. There's another week left before the patch!

The new patch is here. You might say that this weekend is the final countdown. (Da da dahhh dahhh.) So when we talked to your intrepid WoW Insider staff, we asked what they most enjoyed about patch 5.1... and what they least enjoyed about patch 5.1. It's a mixed bag, after all.

Anne Stickney (@Shadesogrey) I'm not sure what I'm doing this weekend -- likely writing along with working on alts to level the new guild. Best part of 5.1? Easily the lore in the Dominance Offensive/Operation Shieldwall stuff. I loved doing those quests, and they did a fantastic job of keeping the story moving along. Worst part? Well there was that time my guild went splat. We're back together and doing great now, however -- so I guess you could tack that onto the "best" answer as well.

WRUP: Patch 5.2 prep

On the the primordial world of "Urth", a primitive race known as "hooman" is busying itself with preparations for an upcoming ritual event. The ritual, which occurs once every few months, is known as "pach'dey", and it brings with it a palpable feeling of excitement for these simple-minded bipeds. This pach'dey looks particularly bountiful for the hoomans, who look forward to seeing exotic new animals, new structures, and even new armaments by the time the ritual is over.

We asked the hoomans how they're preparing for pach'dey.

WRUP: The Dungeon Most Hated

WRUP The Dungeon Most Hated
We've all had that dungeon we're just... tired of. Can't do it again. It hurts us. Those opening faces stare at you, and the sinking realization that you're about to hear "Are we doing all the bosses?" as you step into Blackrock Depths is crushing. You don't even care if you do all the bosses, you just don't want to argue about it.

We've all been there. This week, we asked the intrepid WoW Insider staff which instances we're just tired of. Note that we're not even saying they're bad. Just that we can't do it one more time.

WRUP: Cast the Warcraft movie, again

WRUP Cast the Warcraft movie, again
This week the Warcraft movie secured itself a new director after losing Sam Raimi last year. The new director will be Duncan Jones, the director of Moon and Source Code, who had expressed an interest at directing the film while Sam Raimi was still attached to the project. Personally, I'm happy to see Jones taking on the project ... Not because I love Jones (he's fine) but because I was worried an adaption by Sam Raimi would be too lighthearted for my tastes. If I had it my way every film would be directed by Christopher Nolan.

So now that we have a director, let's write up our dream cast list again. For those of you who have been reading WoW Insider a long time, you'll know I already wrote mine a couple of years ago, so now it's your turn to take a stab at it.

Oh yeah, and what are you playing this weekend? Pfft, just tell us your dream cast list! It's way more fun.

Anne Stickney (@Shadesogrey) I'm currently trying to resist purchasing The Cave on Steam. We'll see if that holds out over the weekend or not. Other than that, a little raiding and a whole lot of writing.

Bonus question: Man I have no idea, but if they don't at least consider Michele Morrow (@michelemorrow) as Sylvanas I am going to be a little sad.
