WRUP: 'tis the season

winter veil
The season of gift giving is here. It's always an odd one for us Azerothian gamers. We'd love to give WoW related gifts, but there's only so many stuffed animals and game cards one wife or husband should receive. So while asking our intrepid staff of WoW journalists what they're playing this weekend, we also asked what WoW gift would bring a smile to their faces. Hope springs eternal, right?

Anne Stickney (@Shadesogrey) I picked up Zelda: A Link Between Worlds and I'll likely be playing that. I loved A Link to the Past, it was one of my favorite SNES titles when I was younger, and this one is just hitting all the right nostalgia buttons for me, plus it's got a new gameplay twist that makes the puzzles even more entertaining to figure out. I might play a bit of WoW while I'm at it, just to finish capping out my valor for the week, or possibly poke around in The Secret World, which is actually a pretty entertaining MMO, although it hasn't captured me in quite the same way that WoW did. Bonus answer: I found a really cool coffee mug on etsy that has the hearthstone symbol engraved in it, and I'm still debating whether or not I want to get it.

WRUP: A very thankful staff

Turkey
Turkey day approaches, like the looming weight gain we all know it will be. And while it's still a few days away, obviously, a little thankfulness is always good for the soul. And so, we asked our dear staff what they're playing this weekend... and what they're thankful for. We all have a little extra room for a bit of thankfulness in our lives.

Adam Holisky (@adamholisky) I'm leveling a new mage up, and I'm have an absolute blast.

I'm thankful for three things.

WRUP: Remembering BlizzCon edition

mists preview blizzcon
BlizzCon is a week behind us. Unless you're an orc who's going to go back in time -- but not really, just kind of back in time, but in a bubbly confusing way -- and make BlizzCon now. Which would be bad for the work week but awesome for weekend shenanigans.

So, unless you're that orc, it's behind us. Some memories may fade, but some we'll carry with us. Which memories of BlizzCon 2013 are your favorite? The ones you'll tuck under your arm and take with you into gaming years long into the future. Let us know!

WRUP: Cross pollination of ideas

WRUP Cross pollination of ideas
Transmogrification is landing in Diablo III, an idea that feels so natural you almost wonder why it wasn't always there. It just feels right. The ability to customize the appearance of your character is already ingrained in us WoW heads, so those Diablo fiends will almost certainly enjoy it. Some of D3's transmog is so cool that we already hope that WoW can steal it.

So this week, when we asked your intrepid WoW Insider staff what they're playing, we also asked what other features we hoped to see enjoy this kind of cross pollination. I'm pulling for pet battles, myself. What good's a monk without a fighting chipmunk?

WRUP: Horseman rise!

WRUP Horseman rise!
It's that time again, when the addled, poetry-filled monster rises from the depths of the grave to taunt us lucky and unlucky alike with dreams of mounts. In the meantime, though, your intrepid WoW Insider staff will keep playing games and making the best of a bad situation. Take a trip with us and tell us what you're playing this weekend!

If you're hunting for a mount of your very own, make sure to stop by our guide to Hallow's End 2013. It has all the details you need, from wicker man to headless man.

WRUP: In which there are elves and broken

WRUP In which there are elves and broken
The delicate subject of new classes was discussed this week by various members of our staff, and while we seem to be split on the matter, there's another option to consider. In this week's bonus question, we look at the possibility of new races and what everyone would like to see -- along with a glimpse at what the staff is playing this weekend. But enough of that -- what are you playing this weekend? Leave your comments, and while you're at it, maybe you want to answer this week's bonus question of what new races you'd like to see yourselves!

Daniel Whitcomb (@danielwhitcomb) I'll be farming battle pets and working on my last few rares on Timeless Isle for the Timeless Champion achievement. I keep barely missing Chelon and Osu. As far as a new race goes, I am still a High Elf fan. As someone who's loved them since Elven Archers in WCII, I think we should have them from the start. Plus, with the extra development the Silver Covenant got in Patch 5.1 and 5.2, it's a perfect time to bring them in to the Alliance. Yes, I know they're "too similar to Blood Elves." I figure we can just give the Horde some "reformed" Eredar that look like red-skinned Draenei, and we'll be even.

WRUP: The hot, big news

WRUP The hot, big news
Not every week is packed with exciting news. But this week, our intrepid WoW Insider staff will take you through the week's biggest hits. It's kind of like a weekly news recap, but with Twitter headers. Don't forget to hit the comments and tell what you're playing this weekend! Anything from GTA to Pac-Man counts, and we want to see it all!

Anne Stickney (@Shadesogrey) I may see if I can work on farming Shaohao reputation this weekend -- I have nearly enough Timeless Coins for the mount, I just don't have the reputation to get it yet! That, and I'm kind of tempted by the Steam sale for The Secret World that Mike Sacco mentioned on Twitter -- it's 50% off, and I might just have to check it out. Biggest news this week would probably have to be that the book I worked on is out now -- I'm terribly pleased about that one!

WRUP: On the question of faction balance

WRUP On the question of faction balance
There are few tumultuous subjects with the power of faction balance. Whether you satirically point out that Orgrimmar can't be destroyed, or whether you think the cinematics simply need rewritten, addressing the subject of which faction is on top... well, it goes poorly.

So this week, we asked your intrepid WoW Insider staff what they think of the current balance. Is one faction better off than the other? And more importantly, what could be done to even out the story? Some of the answers might surprise you.

WRUP: Bonusception

There's so much happening right now that it can be hard to pick out one or two things as the most important. Do we talk about a certain digital collectible card game, and upcoming patch, or the inevitable balancing that always happens? This week, when we asked your intrepid WoW Insider staff what they're playing this weekend, we went one level deeper. We asked them to ask -- and answer -- their own bonus question. It's a downright bonusception. Bwoooooooommmmmm.

Anne Stickney (@Shadesogrey) I'm going to try and find some time to fiddle around with Hearthstone, but more likely going to be painting and working on various projects this weekend instead - this is how it generally goes! Bonus question: DARK BELOW? DARK BELOW DARK BELOW DARK BELOW. DARK BELOW! Answer above.

WRUP: In which we opine about Hearthstone

WRUP In which we opine about Hearthstone
It's been about a week since Hearthstone hit the ground in beta. In the meantime, we've seen giveaways, speculations, videos, and plenty of time to start trying it out. So while we rounded up the weekend asking your intrepid WoW Insider staff about what they're playing, we also asked what they think of Hearthstone so far. So kick back and prepare yourself with the weekend; don't forget to tell us in the comments what you're playing!

Dan Desmond (@Antigen_) I'll probably play a bit of Hearthstone, grind out some more ranked matches and arenas. I'm not as far along as Matticus, but then again I'm not using an OP hunter deck :P

I'm cautiously optimistic about the game. I'm just worried about dailies turning it into a chore and microtransactions becoming mandatory. We shall see.

WRUP: We're all playing Hearthstone

WRUP We're all playing Hearthstone
As we've mentioned before, your intrepid WoW Insider staff actually starts planning our weeks around Thursday. And so we start asking them what they're playing on Thursday. It ensures everyone has a chance to answer before the weekend actually lands on us. So, on a rare occasion, we answer one way early Thursday...

... and then the Hearthstone beta gets announce late Friday afternoon, and we all have to change our answer. So, we're just warning you. While our bonus question was "What did you think of the trailer?" and we were all playing different games, our unanimous answer is actually, "We're playing Hearthstone."

WRUP: There's always something new around the corner

WRUP There's always something new around the corner
The nice thing about the PTR is that there's always something new around the corner. You have the excitement of each new build, deciphering that data, and generally getting excited about what's to come. It's like getting ready for Christmas every single time. So, of course, our bonus question this week was to ask our intrepid WoW Insider staff about their feelings on the PTR.

Anne Stickney (@Shadesogrey) I'll be guesting on the Justice Points podcast this weekend - it's not a live show, but I'll be mentioning the podcast on Twitter once it's up for downloading and all that jazz. Other than that, I may try to get some more valor points farmed this weekend. I really can't wait for 5.4 to go live - the Timeless Isle is AMAZING. I like fiddling around with it on the PTR, but I'd rather be playing it on live!

WRUP: Killing time over the weekend and waiting for a patch

WRUP Killing time over the weekend and waiting for a patch
It seems inevitable that the dog days of summer includes long, hot waiting periods between patches. We're all busy soaking up the sun and patiently anticipating the release of patch 5.4. So for this week's bonus question, we asked the intrepid WoW Insider staff how they're killing time until that patch drops.

Alex Ziebart (@AlexZiebart) In WoW, I'm still slowly leveling all of my level 85 alts. I hope my rogue is still my main in the next expansion, but I want a stable of 90s to choose from if my mind changes before then. I would hate to have only one 90 and no urge to play it, being forced to play through MoP leveling again while everyone else is blazing through the next one. Outside of WoW, I'm working through the many indie games I picked up during the recent Steam sale. Still in the middle of Mark of the Ninja.

WRUP: A hot weekend and the anticipation of a patch

WRUP A hot weekend and the anticipation of a patch
It seems most of the country is blanketed in sweltering heat. If you find yourself outside in the sizzling temperatures, take care to stay hydrated and not hurt yourself. Heat like this isn't something to take lightly, and we don't want any of you to get hurt. We like you!

So while polling your intrepid WoW Insider staff about their weekend plans, we thought we'd take a few moments to ask what they think of the patch so far. Opinions are varied, of course. That's just as well. If we all had the same opinion, that would make for pretty boring reading. So jump on behind the cut and see what your favorite WoW bloggers are into.

WRUP: Buying our dreams in the game

WRUP
Another weekend is upon us, filled with sunbeams and thunderstorms and wild speculation about the new in-game store. And by wild speculation, I mean that most of the WoW Insider staff seems to have relatively measured opinions about the new feature. So, kick back, start your weekend off right, and see what your intrepid WoW journalists had to say about buying stuff while in the game.

Adam Holisky (@adamholisky) I'm playing my hunter. He's hunting things.

I like the in-game store. I'd like to sell an addon in it that plays clips from our podcast whenever something bad happens in the raid. Mostly Matt Rossi yelling things like "YES! Stand in the fire more!" or Anne laughing when you die. I think people would pay for that.
